So you want to start your Internet Business huh? My guess is you are asking where do you start? What’s a good Internet Business?

I have asked that question many many times too as I start building my own Internet Business. But I won’t brag about being a success in this area already. In fact I’ve had more failures than success in this kind of business.

I am no expert in building an Internet Business unlike people you’ve probably met in the forums who share wonderful information with you about how successful their Internet Business is. On the other hand, I am a learner, and just like you I want to learn how to become successful in building my own Internet Business.

So why should you listen to me?

Because I’ve had many failures already!

Yes I did have some success like having sold about 10 copies of my ebook online and ranking number 1 in Google for the “MLM Building Tips” keyword. But the true lessons I have learned were more of the failures I committed and I’d like to share with you several important ones today so that you will avoid the same mistakes I made

Mistake #1: Focusing on what’s profitable than on what I love

Some would argue on this but my experience says otherwise.

There are many Internet Businesses you can start. In fact read this article from About.com and you’ll find 1001 different ways to make money online. And I guarantee you after reading it, you’d be more confused on where to begin.

The internet is a huge gold mine. The issue is not really profitability. Every single opportunity is profitable in its own way. The issue is whether you will enjoy what you will do? And whether you can spend years doing the thing and still be happy and enthusiastic about it.

Your happiness is much more important than profits, because the more happy you become doing what you do, the more you will attract customers to you.

I spent a year doing MLM Online as a business and she spent only two months doing oDesk and she earned more than what I did. Why? Because she loved what she was doing. As for me, I found the niche lucrative but my skill set was not really built for it for the long term. Yes I know I can earn from it big time, but will I be happy, will I be able to sustain it?

So my lesson is: Find out what you love and make a business out of it.

Mistake #2: Failure to take focus

The internet is filled with a lot of information and the biggest problem Internet Business owners will face is information overload. You would want to try everything especially if it promises good money, as most usually do. But doing many things will not make you a very effective business owner.

I remember the quote from an episode of CSI when Gil Grissom said, “You can’t chase two rabbits at the same time.”

My lesson: Focus on one thing and do it well. Or better yet, focus on what you love and do it well.

Mistake #3: Failure to take action

Sometimes you will know what you love and you will know what to do but you can’t just seem to get your act together to do it. Sound’s familiar.

The surest way to fail is never to take action and this is the number 1 reason why Internet business owners fail.

The internet if full of tutorials and everyone of them is worth nothing unless you try and do it yourself. Stop envying people who have made it and stop simply wishing you had the same. Open your computer and start doing something.

My lesson: Done one act for your business everyday.

There are many more lessons but these are my top 3.

So now I try to focus on this blog which I put up together with my fiancée and hopefully this will become the start of a happy and profitable internet business for us.
